PRIMARY YEAR PROGRAMME

EARLY & PRIMARY YEARS PROGRAMME
Introduction to IB

The International Baccalaureate (IB) is an International Educational foundation with its headquarters located in Geneva, Switzerland. It was founded on 25th October, 1968 by John Goormagtigh.

It offers four educational programmes, namely, the IB Primary Year Programme (PYP) for children aged 3-12 years, the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) for children in the age group of 11-16 years, the IB Diploma Programme (DP) for children aged 11-16 years and lastly, the IB Career-related Programme (CP) for children in the age group of 15-19 years.

At Beta Cambridge School, we deliver a world-class primary education by grounding the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) in high-standard American Curriculum learning targets. Through hands-on inquiry, play-based early learning, and transdisciplinary discovery, we empower students from Pre-Y 3 to Grade 5 to take ownership of their learning journey.

Early Years Education at Beta Cambridge School

Nurturing Curiosity Through Play, Inquiry, and Strong Foundations

At Beta Cambridge School, our Early Years program (Pre-Y 3 to Pre-Y 5) provides a warm, stimulating, and child-centered environment where our youngest learners develop a lifelong love for learning. We seamlessly integrate the American Early Learning Standards with the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) to foster early academic, physical, and social-emotional growth.
Our Curriculum Framework

  • American Early Learning Standards (What We Teach) : Establish clear, age-appropriate benchmark expectations across foundational literacy, early mathematics, motor skills development, and social-emotional growth to ensure school readiness.
  • IB PYP Early Years Framework (How We Teach) : Focuses on inquiry through structured play and exploration. Young learners explore four transdisciplinary Units of Inquiry each year, making sense of themselves, their environment, and the world around them.

Key Pillars of Our Early Years Experience

  • Play-Based & Hands-On Inquiry: Children actively investigate concepts through sensory exploration, manipulative stations, art, and guided play.
  • Social & Emotional Growth: Equal emphasis is placed on developing independence, self-regulation, empathy, and positive peer communication.
  • IB Learner Profile in Action: Children begin exploring essential character attributes—learning to be caring, communicative, courageous, and reflective from an early age.
Primary Education at Beta Cambridge School

Combining Academic Excellence with Transdisciplinary Global Inquiry

In the Primary Section (Grades 1 to 5), Beta Cambridge School offers a rigorous and dynamic educational experience. By uniting the high expectations of the American Curriculum with the inquiry-led framework of the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), we prepare students to become critical thinkers, confident communicators, and active global citizens.

Our Dual-Curriculum Advantage

  • American Curriculum Standards (Academic Rigor):

Provide structured, subject-specific learning targets in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. These standards ensure continuous academic progression, skill mastery, and seamless transitions into higher grade levels.

  • IB PYP Transdisciplinary Framework (Conceptual Depth):

Organized around six annual global themes (such as Who We Are, How the World Works, and Sharing the Planet), learning connects subject knowledge to real-world contexts, encouraging students to analyze, evaluate, and solve complex problems.

Key Highlights of Our Primary Section

  • Inquiry & Conceptual Understanding: Instruction moves beyond rote learning toward deep conceptual clarity, critical thinking, and collaborative investigation.

  • Student Agency & Leadership: Students learn to express voice, make choices, and take ownership of their personal and academic growth.

  • Balanced Assessment: We evaluate student progress through both American Curriculum benchmark assessments and PYP conceptual inquiries, providing a complete picture of student achievement.

Primary Years Programme

The PYP aims to create a curriculum that focuses on issues that cross across different subject areas and helps the child to develop as an enquirer (questioner) both in the classroom and outside. They develop skills that help them share their ideas independently and think logically in any given situation. The curriculum also emphasises on the social and emotional wellbeing of the child along with academicsand prepares the young learners for successful life, now and in the future.
